AviMapGPS started as a project in my mind in ~ October 2010. As a new pilot, just licensed in that year, I felt it would be great to have a secondary means of navigation on board, that avoided the bulky and cumbersome sectional maps that are widely used in the US. As such I started developing this app, which can be used on the iPhone / iPad platforms, and costs just a tiny fraction of any commercial aviation GPS.

It  really improves your situational awareness, specially when you are a student pilot, and you are flying your first solo long-distance cross country flight and suddenly you loose all electric equipment on board. Yes… that did happen to me. Of course, i knew where I was on the paper map, but having a tool like this really lowered my stress level. I ended up doing a flappless landing (C172 with no electrical power = no flaps) in my base airport. I was so stress-concentrated that this was probably my best landing ever.

Anyway… If you are a pilot, or just an aviation enthusiast… Download AviMapGPS from the app store. Improvements and new features will keep coming.

I was just checking out your app in the App Store. Found it among the New Releases. Congrats, looks pretty good.

Happy with the amount of downloads so far?

I’ve worked with a few app developers over the last few months, and I’ve learned that there’s two aspects that you need to focus on to be really successful promoting apps in the App Store. I’d be happy to share what I’ve learned if you’re interested? Just let me know and I’ll send you over a quick overview. (I’m not trying to sell you information, just don’t want to bother you if you’re not interested in what I have to share.)

    Best of luck,
    Ed Turner
